BTW I love the G8. That thing is a rocketship.
Thanks. I love it too. Even the lower GT version was sold for 2.5 years and has 362HP and was sold for around $25K...that thing is pretty quick too and easy to mod. Most have!

If you dare to show up to a race with an automatic, you deserve the trip to the chop shop your car is about to take.
You simply don't know what you're talking about on this one.
I'm not talking about the speed, I'm talking about the respect of the muscle car! Stick or go home, baby!![]()
Oh got it. And it's hard to disagree w/you on this. But, the new auto's have manu-stick/auto-stick/what ever 'stick' each manufacturer calls it and all of them allow you to "row your own" so to speak. But the point of your point is valid.

Re: C7 Corvette
I've driven sports cars my entire life, almost every one of them a manual transmission, and I continue to prefer the visceral feel of shifting to just putting the right foot down on the gas pedal.
That said, jand3k is right in noting the newer automatic transmissions often offer a performance advantage. The Porsche Carrera S, for example delivers a 0-60 time of 4.3 in the seven-speed manual version but 4.1 in the PDK double-clutch, which is actually an automatic transmission.
Same thing with the car I'm driving now, a six-speed Porsche 987 Spyder. The 0-60 time in the six-speed is 4.5 but the PDK delivers it a bit quicker in 4.4. That's because the PDK comprises two separate clutches that synchronize in such a fashion as to always deliver perfectly timed shifts at the optimum point in the torque curve. A human can't replicate that.
Generally speaking, if the car's heavier, I like it in an automatic. If it's lighter, I want to manually go through the gears. The 2014 Corvette's light enough that, were I shopping for one, I'd probably be looking manual transmission.
One car that I think ought to be offered in a manual but which isn't is the Nissan GTR. The car is a bit heavy at 3,800 pounds but performance oriented enough to warrant a six-speed option in my opinion.

Good points Class. To also prove your point, the 4,000 lb fully stock Pontiac G8 GXP Manual does 0-60 at 4.5 seconds while the auto hits 60 in 4.3 seconds. (w/a simple CAI it does it in 4.1 secs)
But, while the manual is more fun the auto will accurately replicate that 0-60 time consistantly/more often.

I have loved every moment of my manual except for one. I bought it in Tampa and drove it home in rush hour traffic. Normally this doesn't bother me, but this was the first time I had ever driven a manual and was teaching myself on the drive. Very frustrating. Since then it has been great.

My son has a fleet of Corvette's from the 60s through present, some faster than others, all manual transmission - and the most expensive was $1.89.

Because most Asian cars last 2-3 times as long as the American made ones, and usually do so at a comparable price, if not less

If this was still the 1980's, 1990's, or the early 2000's I would agree, but the build quality of American cars has come along way recently. Even back then most American cars were very reliable. My 2000 Camaro has over 200,000 miles on it and has only needed basic maintenance and tires.

So you're going to compare vehicles that haven't largely been on the road long enough to have any real issues?
Perhaps you've gotten lucky with your Camaro, but largely GM has been one of the worst with longevity of vehicles, I know, I've owned several, granted GM's are relatively cheaper to work on, and certainly easier to work on myself as opposed to needing someone else.
But I've driven Honda's and Chevy's, and I'll take Honda over Chevy every day of the week.
It's not that I wouldn't buy an american product, I would, it's just Honda, in particular, makes a better product!
