If he's that good now, imagine how good he'll be after he goes through puberty.

There's some rising juniors that the UF coaches wouldn't take right now. But they loved this kid at Saturday's camp and think he's going to be a stud.

I trust our coaches with evaluating talent, I was more commenting on the solidity of the commitment.

Gotcha. He says he grew up a Gator fan and Florida was his dream school, but we'll see. His recruitment hasn't even started.

Growing up a Gator is GREAT news. I'm officially excited about this commitment now. Thanks Zach!

This commitment means nothing at this point.

Austin Rivers committed as a sophomore also...so much can happen between now and signing day. I'll get excited when (A) he actually continues to develop and proves worthy of his offer and more importantly (B) he signs on the dotted line.

Offering sophomores is silly.

I would agree, but offering 13 year old 8th graders like Lame Kiffy does, is even sillier.

At least Byrd (who is 16) has grown up a Gator fan and recently camped at UF. I think it was a mutual thing - we liked him and he liked us. Why not go ahead and say it?

Isn't he technically a Freshman who will be a Sophomore in the fall?

That is correct. As he is reportedly 16 years old, he was likely held back a year of school as most freshmen in HS are 14 or 15. May attribute to why he's such a stud compared to other players in his class.

Let me know if he is still committed to the gators when his balls drop then I will get excited. This is getting ridiculous.

IMHO, if a kid is playing varsity football and demonstrates remarkable skills, I have no problem with offering. There are some kids who just have it.

Wait "No Friends"? I've Googled & Googled and still can't find this
recruit Tad Early you referred to. Sounds like a sack-master, though. :?

Here's a link with some videos. Check out the dunk! He definitely going to be a good one, if his mind is right. If he starts displaying the traits of a bad apple, he'll be sent down the road. Seems like a good kid, though.

Read Malcolm Gladwell's "Outliers" to learn about this very impact on hockey...really interesting piece on the direct correlation between NHL Canadian hockey playes and the month in which they were born. Interesting stuff.

He is playing varsity, so the fact that he is a year older than his classmates is irrelevant. It might have helped him make a name for himself coming into high school, might have helped him garner early playing time, but didn't help him against varsity level competition. He looks impressive in the videos and apparently looked good on the hoof at camp. If his stock keeps rising, I'm sure that he'll have other suitors, but UF will be able to say they were with him from the beginning.
