Bryant Young Resigns!

Postby ATXGator » Wed Apr 10, 2013 3:49 pm

I think this is going to hurt us. At least we have time before next year, but he was a great coach and a former NFL star.

Random. Kids loved him and really wanted to play for him. Oh well. Best of luck to him.

I wonder if Brad Lawing being hired as assistant coach/defensive line coach has anything to do with it. Maybe bumping heads.

Orrrr maybe the guy really just doesn't get that much enjoyment from coaching and would rather chill with the fam. He's only coached a few years.

This makes me wonder if Muschamp saw this coming when he hired Lawing instead of promoting Young. No matter what I don't like seeing him go. recruits talk about him and his nfl experience a lot.

Well we know one thing: If he decides to return to coaching at another school in a year, there will be plenty of super-classy Gator fans on this board wishing him dead.

As it should be.

Unusual reason and odd time to resign.

****.

Well, we thing we all know is "spending time with my family" is a lie. Did he get caught smoking weed with the players, curse out Muschamp, have an affair with a staff member, or is he interviewing elsewhere?

I'm betting the last option...I think we got him because we got Quinn, with whom he's close. He was born around Chicago, went to ND, then out west for his entire NFL career. He really has nooooooo connection to Florida, the SEC or the heat we have to put up with down here. I'm betting he winds up closer to home, at ND, or with Quinn or another pro opportunity. Good luck to him, but he's now nothing more than Gatorbait...

This sucks. Politically correct, or not, it's good to have black coaches on the staff. The kids, especially recruits, seemed to love him.

Hate to see him go. He was well-liked by the players and made a positive impact on the recruiting trail.
Best wishes, Coach Young!

http://www.alligatorarmy.com/2013/1/21/ ... line-coach

"But there's also the issue of what is to be done with Bryant Young, whose contract only ran through 2012. Young was responsible for some of the development of Sharrif Floyd and Dominique Easley, especially in 2012, and had seemed to come into his own as a coach, but he has been somewhat underwhelming on the recruiting trail. If Lawing is Young's replacement as defensive line coach, it makes even more sense for him to be getting a substantial raise to join Florida's staff, as Young made $230,000 in 2012."

and

http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/college ... nt-coaches

"Defensive line coach Bryant Young was not given an extension or a raise. He signed a two-year deal through the 2012 season that pays him $230,000."
