Ala draws from a larger pool & gets by with it
They recruit everyone they can and cull out the ones they
don't want.
It's amazing how they continue to get by with doing this.
Here is a good article.

I know this isn't what you meant, "jmsk", but
..wouldn't call winning NCs getting by.

Rog - Master of double entendre. You need to add that to your linkedin skills.

I was reading the comments that come at the end of the article. Some Bama fans ,i guess, were defending Saban. Regarding the ethics of oversigning, one question that is good to pose is, why are teams besides Alabama NOT using this tactic?

Two potential reasons. It is not ethical, others can't get enough good players to allow for culling. Perhaps both. I do wonder how he gets multiple players at a position where we don't. Some of our recruits seem to be afraid to recruit, almost none are afraid at Al.

Why is it not ethical? If you don't keep your end of the bargain up on an academic scholarship, you don't get it renewed for four or five years. Even if you do well on your SATs and look like a good prospect as a HS student, if you can't perform while in college at the next higher level then you don't get to keep the scholly.

Ethics.?
Scholarship program is suppose to revolve around the educational
opportunity = hence the word scholar. Now a 2nd,3rd year student
on academic scholarship does not lose his scholarship because a
smarter freshman comes in.

Are you typing in ascii writer on an 82 TRS80? Some other program prior to word wrap?
An academic scholar who can't perform at the college level and who receives mediocre or poor grades loses his scholarship. It's as simple as that.
I have no problem with the same thing happening to all this fluff we seem to keep on sideline. I realize that some of that was just laziness or poor recruiting by the last regime. If it's your junior year and you're still second team on the kickoff return team, it's time to move on. We've had dozens upon dozens of these guys hanging around the last 4 or 5 years .

I group my wordings in the "packets" as I choose, not bowing down
to a machine that ignores impacts of groupings. Do you razz on
SI magazine for their compact columns ? No matter.
It's been made out that Saban would strip the scholarship from a
jr. with a 2.9 grade point because a freshman with a 3.4 GP enrolled.
Not trying to be difficult, but the kid losing his scholly may not be able
to continue his education, were he to have serious scholarly hopes and
plans. These young men are the very ones that aren't counting on the
pro-sports career to fulfill their plans.

Alabama draws from a large pool to over compensate for having the smallest gene pool.[/rogdoc]

If Alabama didn't play by different rules, they would have never been any good in any sport, which is understandable considering their location and native population. Also, explains why AA's would even consider going there with their fanbase.

That's why rapes aren't prosecuted in Alabama ---
the DNA matches everybody.
