To Redshirt or Not.....
NSD has come and gone, with very little excitement for us. Muschamp tried to give us some drama, but this class was 95% solid with little drama at the end. I can only imagine a lot of us on here will start wondering about who will be redshirted or should be redshirted. In this day when so many talented Juniors (RS & True) leave for the NFL, what advantages are reaped at UF? How many of us wanted to see some RS Juniors have their scholly not renewed because we thought we'd have a talented Recruit taking his spot? So when is it advantageous to redshirt at UF when recruiting stays strong?

When you're a high school offensive lineman with a good frame and quick feet, but you only weigh 240 lbs....

Ivie & Rolon both will be coming off knee injuries....so very likely to redshirt. The Punter redshirts. Staver likely. Sherit, to gain weight. At least one of the WRs, Thompson? Young for sure.

The decision to red shirt or not rests with the coach; it isn't an option for a player...

Do coaching staff discuss red shirt with recruits?... or is the decision made after spring ball?

It depends - if the kid is physically ready to compete, he will be given a chance to compete. Once once Fall camp is over, the Coaches have a pretty good idea who they will redshirt. Some kids stay on the bubble, all season, if there is little depth - the plan is to redshirt, as long as injuries or other circumstances do no lead to them having to play.

Actually, no one who understands how college football recruiting works.
If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace.

Yeah, Thompson weighs 170. He'll redshirt and spend a year at the training table while working with the S&C staff.

If you're talking about Young, he's 260 lbs and he'll be the TE in the jumbo set like we used "under-sized" Humphreys last year.

That will probably be Colin Thompson this year but yes that is probably his role in the offense in the future.

I'm pretty sure it was Sherit that got hurt, not Ivie. I could be mistaken though.
