Rocky Times Ahead on Rocky Top?
As if fielding lackluster teams and having a revolving-door coaching situation weren't bad enough at Tennessee, now this: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootbal ... l/21621081.

Old news, but much worse than originally reported. That's why I thought they wouldn't let Dooley go until the contract expired, couldn't afford the payout.
Funny part is the commenter who blames the financial collapse on CBS and the media for getting Perl fired... Almost as clueless as the Clowns.

per article : ... "if you keep spending the money eventually runs out."
To my thinking : you run out of money and stop spending asap which
avoids the $200,000,000 plunge. Is their a State University Staff Union
pension involved here ?
Secondly, does this show the "Quick-Fix" stupidity of no faith in
the old standard of "brainstorming" to creatively build from within ?
Back to Phil Fulmer's time, finding a way to help him work the magic
UT needed. Would have certainly produced more wins and far less
debt. When they burst Fulmer's bubble, did they also burst Old
Rocky Tops' bubble ?

For those interested, here is a longer, more detailed look at what has happened at UT.....and it certainly could happen here.

Mike Hamilton was a walking disaster for UT. Many recognized the first signs of trouble in the handling of Fulmer's "retirement." That's what happens when you bring a trailer salesman's mentality to the job of AD for a major university.
We're in great shape with Jeremy. I only hope the succession goes well when he retires in the immediate future. The key is in the solidity and strength of the organization he has built in his long successful tenure.

Re: Rocky Times Ahead on Rocky Top?
It cannot happen here because UF administration is not that
stupid/crooked. This lunacy in overspending must relate to so
much shady-dealings we're seeing with the FedGov, too-big-to-fail
swindlers, construction kickbacks to individuals not to UT, approval
of overpriced bids etc.
2004 UT "rah-rah" pushed through approval of a $200 million dollar
Neyland Stadium improvement expansion plan. Sensible financiers,
university economists(?) would determine some sort of reasonable
$money return ....like increased revenue from proportionate increase
in paying attendance.?
So check : from 2000 to 2007 UT averaged attendance was greater
than 105,000. After costly expansions ($200 mil) the projected
seating capacity for 2014 completion is (wait for it) = 101,000 . ??
A lot of the cost went for dining facilities and kitchen facilities.
They must've payed Corzine a high consultant's fee.
Then throw in the simultaneous coach & staff buyouts in more sports
than Fulmer-football. Repeat this with Dooley & staff now, along
with current $4+ millions to new HCs and staff. And that comprises
the spiral down their bottomless pit.
Some scam-artists made a lot of $millions like they were dealing
with the FedGov or sub-prime mortgages, etc.

So the moral is you may as well buy your tickets and go to the games no matter how bad the team, because in the end you will pay for them anyway.

Re: Rocky Times Ahead on Rocky Top?
And there are still people who are hell-bent on "paying" athletes.
Sure, Tennessee has mismanaged their money w/ the bad coaching hires...then firings. But, this is a major SEC program. Imagine what East Carolina, UCF, FIU, etc are losing annually (in their overall athletic programs). Then people want to add on the costs of "paying" athletes. Keeping in mind: if you pay just 1 football player you must pay every single athlete in the athletic program - including woman's golf, cross-country, tennis, etc.

Also, on paying the athletes : if money violations are now hard to
keep out, opening $ floodgates won't keep those cheat-people in line.
The extra benefits that I see as fit would be scaling down their
course loads to less than purely academic students ... by their
choice. It's tougher to study concentrate when you're feeling aches
and pains from Saturday's collisions. IDK ??

Never fails to amaze me. Florida even with a mediocre head coach and an even more mediocre quarterback was a Georgia victory away from being ranked high enough to play for the National Championship yet they sill continue to obsess with poor UT. a team that didn't even have enough wins to make a bowl game.
No doubt about it, regardless of horrific head coaches and low ranking the University of Tennessee plays and preys on the mind of the jortie rabble of Florida.
Allah save them when we get on a roll and start winning again.

The only thing in Tennessee getting on a roll will be LuLu and Jethro headed to the diabetes and amputations clinic.

At least you got mine right.
I'm from Florida so I'll take that as a compliment. And good for LuLu that she lost all that weight, although I doubt it'll helped. Weight or no weight, without a pack of pork chops around her neck Junior and the hound ain't interested.-
