Joe Cappelletti after October attacck.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -
Former University of Florida quarterback Doug Johnson stands accused of felony battery by Gainesville police following an attack that left a Gators fan hospitalized, a police spokesman told WKMG-TV.
Joe Cappelletti, 28, told police he was a victim of an unprovoked attack right after the UF-LSU game in October. At the time, Cappelletti said his nose was broken in eight places and that he required surgery.
When WKMG first broke the story last October, police didn't have suspects identified, but after continuing to work the case, police identified Johnson (pictured, right) as their suspect and in November filed charges with the state attorney's office serving Alachua County.
Johnson, 35, who played for the Atlanta Falcons for five years after his time with the Gators, pleaded not guilty to the charges, according to Alachua County court records. In addition to police charging the former Gators quarterback, a second suspect was also charged, according to a GPD spokesman.
As the process plays out in court, Cappelletti said he's hoping for justice.![]()

Is this for real? Look how this was reported back in October:

If true, wow.

If true, wow.
A group of Gator fans assaulted four other Gator fans after the LSU game on Saturday.
According to Gainesville Police Department spokesman Ben Tobias, the assailants beat Joe Cappelletti, 28, of Gainesville until he blacked out. They also reportedly attacked three more people, including Cappelletti's fiancee, Jamie Davis, 25. All are from Gainesville.
Tobias said GPD is searching for the assailants, and even though there were plenty of witnesses to the attack, descriptions of the men are vague.

That's the same one, I remember when it happened. Gator on Gator violence via the rickshaw mafia.

I guess all Gator fans have blocked out the memory of DJ being our QB. They can't even remember what he looked like.

Maybe that's what started it. Mistaken identity, he asked for Noah Brindise autograph.Last edited by FunnGun on Tue Jan 15, 2013 1:00 pm, edited 1 time in total.

He's made a career out of bad decisions and poor judgment, it seems.

At this time the facts are still fuzzy at best, but, police have confirmed that the beating victims were not SEC defensive backs.

Good thing SOS wasn't there, he would have pulled him and put Noah Brindise in there instead.

Re: Doug Johnson Charged With Felony Assault
Disappointed in Doug, but not that surprised. He has always had a reputation of being an A-hole, from his time with the Gators on through his time in the NFL.
I remember a poll of anonymous NFL players in late 2000's who voted on most unfriendly players. He was number one, which was odd because he was a low profile backup quarterback. The other "winners" of the pole were high profile A-holes like T.O., Randy Moss, etc.

He was actually aiming at Bobby Bowden's head and of course missed again. This poor guy was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

He was a sophomore at Buchholz when I was a senior, and my sister was in the same graduating class. Trust me, he was an A-hole in high school, too.
