Not unlike putting Jesse James in the NRA "Handgun Hall of Fame".

Still don't understand why a bunch of writers control a sporting hall of fame. That would be like the forum here voting on starters

You've burst my bubble. You mean we don't really influence the coaches? Shocking.

We'd finally go undefeated if that was true.

That's correct. The same goes for the people who write a post as if they expect the player or team to read it and make a change based on it.

Never been a MLB fan but if those players cheated how can they even be considered for the HOF?

Yep, that's him.
Guess I've been hearing too much about ATM's Charlie Football lately.

Pete Rose was da man.

Let's not forget Mark McGwire. Although not one of them will ever be convicted in a court of law from irrefutable documentation the preponderance of damning evidence shows they used chemical enhancements to excel in Major League baseball and break legitimate records earned by many legends of the game.
They cheated and their careers should be viewed a fraud and a big lie. Why should we let bygones be bygones and reward their immoral and illegal behavior

Big Mac ain't gettin' in either.
Funny story....I used to see him at a pizza joint in Danville, Ca when he was playing for the A's. He was kind of lanky, and a pretty nice guy. Seeing him a few years later I always wondered what toppings he ordered to get so big. Maybe Canseco spiked his pie.

The way I look at it is, the Steroid era was a bad part of baseball history, but nonetheless, it was A part of baseball history. Players used steroids during that time, and the Bonds, Clemens, Sosa's and McGwire's were the great ones during their time. Put them in the HoF for their accomplishments, but put "Steroid User" on the plaque. There is no right way to handle it.

Clemens and Bond were HOF before any chages were made, they should get in.
Mcguire maybe but Sosa, I don't think so.

Dang, I'd like to know how many "Hammerin' Hank" would've hit if he'd been juiced.

Re: Bonds/Clemens/Sosa
From age 21 to 34 Bonds averaged about 32 home runs per season.
Then at age 35-36 Bonds biceps bulged and he hit 49, then 73 homers.
Dramatic jump is a give-away.
Similarly Sosa made a dramatic jump from 49 to 66 etc, after 9 years
of no serious threat to 60.
And of course McGwire apologized for juicing.

On a higher plane we shouldn't allow it, but do we know sufficiently enough about the moral character of the game's earlier inductees to confidently say whether or not the playing field remains level? I'm not sure we do.
I'm conflicted about all of this. Maybe not so much the case with Sosa, but definitely with Bonds and Clemens. These guys were destined for the Hall whether or not they cheated.
All of which creates a huge dilemma for baseball. These guys' names are, for now, etched atop the record books, and yet a group of voters have deemed them not worthy of note. I'm not sure how they reconcile this.
