We Lose $ on the Sugar Bowl???
Dooley's reporting often leaves me yawning, but this time he left me scratching my head with some pretty sloppy reporting on just how much we stand to gain or lose financially by going to the Sugar Bowl. Could one of you financial wizards out there clear this matter up for the rest of us? I am sure that UF is not throwing money away going to a BCS bowl, but Dooley's article sure makes it sound that way. Thanks.

If you and others would purchase the 14,000 tickets not sold, the numbers would look much better.

Thanks for the wisecrack smart guy. But it doesn't answer the question which was legit and not intended to draw comments from posters like you who always seem to have something they think so "witty" to say.

Please allow "rogdochar" to 'claredefy' this for all.
It's a CPA-devised "fingers-crossed" public announcement for
purposes of helping the IRS understand there's no need for
auditing 'screwtonny' - UF pointing out there's no sense sending
a math-checker here, when nothing adds up there. Have a nice day.

Actually, Dooley's article doesn't mention losing money anywhere. The title says COSTS 2.5 Mil.
Now apologize to RH.

I haven't looked at the numbers or read the article so we make $11 million just for appearing in the BCS Sugar Bowl so since I have seen we will lose $2.5 million does that mean we are actually losing 13.5 million because 13.5-11 equals 2.5???. So we gain the 11 million but lose 13.5 million so that leaves us 2.5 million short???

I didn't think so. There is no way we are losing money on this game. No we haven't sold alot of tickets but we still make a ton of money. Go Gators!!

"Jboss", shouldn't make yourself so obvious ... ruins the whole
purpose of your witness protection plan. Mafia has an internet
hitman.
Notice, in the above, I nowhere mention "MathewM"'s name.

Re: We Lose $ on the Sugar Bowl???
Well a serious attempt to answer would require a defination of "lose money".
Now I understand we are spending about 2.5 mill and might be on the hook for another 2.5 mill in unsold tickets.
We get some money directly and some assistance from the SEC on the unsold tickets.
The rest of the money is put into a fund which is shared by all SEC teams, even those who don't go bowling.
This does not count additional shirts, caps etc that bowling creates.
Now if we spend more that we directly get then you could say we "lose money". That being we have less funds that if we did not go bowling.
You also could count the bonus money that going bowling triggers.
So by some measure we are "losing money", but you and I probably don't want to stay home just to have a little more money.

Re: We Lose $ on the Sugar Bowl???
Some details on the room costs would be interesting. Just say between the players and others sharing rooms and the coaches (with families) and others getting single rooms (suites) you end up with 60 rooms for 10 nights. Your cost per room would be $533 ($320,000/600). So, while these assumptions are most likely incorrect, it still seems like a very large lodging cost--say you book 800 room nights--that would still be $400/night. I recently stayed at a very nice hotel at Disney World for $140 night.
