Preparatory Post for Gators vs Arizona.
These 7-0 Gators are "all the rage" in CBktB publicity circles. The
points made in the Gatorzone article is that these Gators find all
the praise will play no part in helping them win a single basketball
game. They have a good Donovan mindset.
Here's some "talk" by the knowledge-worthy :
Jeff Goodman, national college basketball writer for CBSSports.com, will be there at Arizona.
“The biggest surprise about Florida is not that they’re 7-0, it’s how they got to 7-0,” Goodman said this week. “They pounded Wisconsin and they pounded Marquette, but I really think the most impressive performance was going into Tallahassee -- in a rivalry game against a team with some pros on the roster -- and pounding Florida State, too. That game was never close.”
The Gators had been a middle-of-the-pack defensive team in the post-title years, finishing last in the Southeastern Conference in defending the 3-point line last season.
Through seven games this season, UF is allowing opponents just 34.9-percent shooting overall, 32.1 from the arc and rank second in
the nation in points allowed per game at 48.3.
Go Gators versus Arizona. A chance to prove yourselves further, on
their home court.... at 10 pm on ESPN.

Why have writers made such a big deal out of the FSU game? That was the biggest blow-out of a young season.
It's not a question of the Gators proving themselves. It's if 'Zona can be the first team to test Florida.

Don't anyone fool themselves. Florida doesn't travel out west very often. This will be a huge road test, unlike traveling to Vandy, UT, or even NYC. good news is time zone will be on our side. Playing at 7p (10p EST) will help the team.
The line is only UF -2.5. I like it!

Maybe because FLA held the clowns to their FEWEST point total at home (47 pts) in it's program history. They had 15 points at halftime.
Just a guess.

Because the ACC just doesn't prepare you.

First I think that these teams that we have pounded are not as good as their name might indicate. Now UF is playing well and I believe playing much more zone D that previously.
Now we do have a lot of talent and can use it in many different ways. We do have some (perhaps a lot) of upside especially if we can hit on all cyls.
Now Arizona seems to me using its name in the same way as others. They have a point guard who was a shooting guard (and not that great at that), they make a lot of turnovers (so do we), and have a distant and hostile arena.
Time will tell (not too much now) but I think we will win this game by a reasonable margin like 10pts, as long as the team is focused and works hard.

Donovan will likely deploy both zone and man tonight, trapping wherever possible to try and force turnovers. 'Zona's a good shooting team but they've yet to see heat like they'll see tonight. We're the deepest and most athletic defensive team in America.

Good notes. Also, add that it's #4 UF vs #7 Arizona, a top-10 war.

Big front court for Zona. We need to block out and it would be great to pound it down low and get their guys into foul trouble early. Getting pumped about this one.

This is what I like about my gsmb compatriots :
.... "NVGator" pops in the point about the 'tip-off' time being 10pm
for 'Zona but 7pm for the Gators internal clocks. Then adds the
bet odds = Gators favored by 2.5 points -- that's a bit sobering.
... "MJMGator's" regard for "Zona's freshman 7 footer & frosh 6'10".
Can they block out Young, Yeguete, Murphy ? Get any in foul cautions?
TV promo mentions last year's game = Gator win in OT 78-72 with
Young at 25 points & 10 rebounds. This team has a "spread-offense",
meaning they usually spread the scoring load around.
I'm getting revved for this one... impatient.

I think the time factor should be reversed, 10 p.m. for Gators internal clocks, no?

Don't look back, something might be gaining on you.-Satchel Page
