Auburn and Arkansas, have filled their slots - and UT is still screwing around...the longer it takes, the more suspect everything is. UT is still on probation, right? So, the NCAA is watching over them...
I still say, go get an Al Golden from Miami who now has a couple of years of recruiting in the south with a clean image, and let's close the book on wild-eyed stringbean quarterbacks and start building a defense again. Ahmen.
Like Spurrier said, if you want to be the best, you have to play the best. It benefits all of the SEC to have UT back on top; it is too easy to kick 'em in the spheroids and say, how Mighty the Gators are...nowadays.
Ya know, it is all in the attitude built up by the coach: we once cringed at the thought of playing Georgia....

^This. It was dumb to have fired him in the first place. He made them relevant in the 90s and they wanted more. He has stated many times that he'd come back. Swallow your pride UT and hire Phil back.

Here's what Phil said recently: http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2012/12/phillip_fulmer_would_coach_at.html
They need to pick up the phone.

Suspect? I think the word is desperate. I don't think they're holding out for some big element of surprise or so they can dig up a few more mason jars full of bills. I think it's that they can't find anyone that's willing to take the job that doesn't guarantee the AD and prez get fired when they make the announcement. Hell, they're probably reconsidering rehiring the Dools at this point. The old adage of "no news is good news" does not apply in long coaching searches.
At the time, I thought it was stoooopid to fire Phil and expected they'd slip some. I never thought they'd fall completely on thier azzez and break their hip.

I hate your sig.
Given Jordan is the greatest player and that was an a clutch game winning shot; but he should have been called for an offensive foul on the push off.

If I were Philly, I would lobby for the job then come in and eat them out of house and home, tank the football team even more for a couple of years, thumb my nose and say see ya, suckers!
Alv: We have no excuses for this humiliating loss. We have only ourselves to blame. Tennessee most definitely deserved to lose.

Last time they won was in 2004 in Knoxville with the 30-28 gift from the SEC officials when they didn't restart the clock after the bogus personal foul penalty on Dallas Baker. Clock should have run down to 25 seconds before we punted and instead we had to punt with 50 seconds left. They kicked a long FG to win as time expired. Zooker had no clue about the clock and lasted just a few more weeks. At 1-2, he's the only coach with a losing record against Tenn since the 50's.
After that game, Urban went 6-0 and Champ is now 2-0. FYI... Spurrier was 7-4 vs. UT, Galen 1-0, Pell 1-0.

Re: Remarkable Tennessee Fact
I remember during the Fulmer's last 2 years, he had lost much weight.
I even had the thought that slimming down made him a bad coach.
All UT's coaching since, has been way below Phil Fulmer's standard.
If Fulmer & UT were cruising along with perennial Top-10 relevancy,
what caused their decline? IDK ? Any explanations ?

I believe at the time, they were saying it was his lack of recruiting over a multi-year period where they went:
2005: 5-6
2006: 9-4
2007: 10-4
2008: 5-7
They felt he lost his touch after 2004 and wasn't worth keeping, so they had him on a short leash at that time. I guess they didn't care that he was 152-52 overall and 98-34 in the SEC!
