Here's a hoops shocker . . .
Kentucky has dropped out of the AP poll. That's right, they are OUT. I wonder when the last time that occurred?

It's been a long while. After Tubby left they tumbled a bit, but stayed in the rankings from what I recall. It is a shocker to fall so far and fast this season.
UK has been in 787 polls out of 1,051 since 1949. Only NC has more appearances at 805. Source: http://www.collegepollarchive.com/mbasketball/ap/app_total.cfm
They will be back in the polls this season. The talent is there, but so is a serious deficiency at point guard. That's an experience problem that's not be easily addressed against the top teams.
This is where the Calipari's 'one and done' recruiting strategy is going to be a real problem for consistency.

Is this the biggest one week drop in poll history? If not, it's got to be somewhere near the top of the list.

They were absolute garbage when Billy Gillespie was there, so all you have to do is go back to the year before Calipari arrived in Lexington.

That's ok. New head football coach in Lexington will allow this news to slip past the Big Blue faithful unnoticed. (yeah right)

Cali-fairy has gotten somewhat lucky that his one and doners had some kind of leadership returning. In year 1, Wall had Patrick Peterson. Knight also had a couple seniors and last year's crew had Miller, Lamb and Jones as returners. They all jumped ship last year and they no experience. They may surprise someone every now and then, but there will be no consistency... 10+ losses, out in the first weekend of tourney, mark it down

Yep agreed they will get better by the end of the year, but the lack of chemistry will kill them during the season and tourney.

It looks like they can't handle a "sticky" defense.

Yep, one good memory though.....

The record for the furthest drop was set last week by a different team.
Then it was topped this week by Kentucky... LOL

Kentucky's problems begin at the point, where NC State transfer Ryan Harrow is struggling to implement Calipari's way of doing things. Harrow, unlike his two immediate predecessors at the point, is not a heralded player.
I was watching All-Access Kentucky, the reality-based show on ESPN, a couple week ago, and Calipari was going ape shyt on Harrow over his inability to stay controlled and pick up the nuances of the point.
Might be a long, difficult season for Kentucky.

I remember not too long ago when people were going crazy over a struggling UF team after it lost all five of its starters AND the best 6th man in the country. And that was without signing the number 1 recruiting class in the nation with NBA one and doners coming in.

Yeah, but there were two years not being in the tournament.

Just for clarification, I found how long the Cats had been ranked...
Source: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/8705884/kentucky-wildcats-take-biggest-plunge-ap-top-25-history
Kentucky had been ranked in the last 61 polls, 11 of those weeks at No. 1. The run started with the preseason poll of 2009-10, the start of the Calipari era when the Wildcats started young lineups which were usually gutted the next season by the NBA draft.
