1) He adds a name to our recruiting. He'll be a coach that walks in and is known by Mom's and Dad's and HS coaches.
2) He has studied all the defenses in the SEC and will add insight to our weekly game-planning.
Agree, he's very familiar with SEC defenses, personal and coaches. Recruiting and development wise he should be a big asset. He's coached some good WR but they were mostly under the radar guys that he got the most out of. He took a 5th year senor wide receiver and converted him to QB in one week and beat Tennessee.

And the next WR's coach will be...
Joker Phillips

Is this a good hire? I know we desperately need some improvement in that area.

I like it... Had a feeling it was going to be one of the recently departed SEC heads. With their relationship, I thought it was going to be Dooley.
Joker was a great position coach that was good enough to become an OC, and a good enough OC to be named a HC.

These multiple conversations well suit my ADD.
The Peterson story...the guy reports it as fact and then get's into all of this logic as to why his guess might be correct. He's either making the story something it's not (a done deal) or is a horrible writer.

And...Fisher to UT?
We have been told the Florida State’s Fisher is tops on Hart’s list and that does make sense. He hired Fisher as coach-in-waiting in Tallahassee, Fisher has SEC ties and a Dixie-fied recruiting base, and Hart was fired by FSU. How better to get back at the guys who let you go than to swipe their coach? Multiple sources have told us that Fisher and Hart will meet this week in New York, probably today.

If I were Dave Hart, I would offer Gundy the job. He seems more competent than Dumbo. For selfish reasons, I would rather Dumbo Fisher stay at FSU.

Yeah, so far he's the only one reporting it, but several people have cited it as a source. Who knows. Personally, I'm a little suspicious.

Agree, completely. Personally, I'd take Gundy over Fisher in a sec, although Gundy wouldn't be my first choice. But the selfish side on me wants to see Fisher get his shot to screw UT even worse than Dooley did.

If you want another great Pat Young block gif, find the one from the last game. I've looked for it and can't find it, yet. I will though.

Re: Gators New WR Coach
I know less than others. But has Joker "coached-up" any WRs to
all SEC or All American like Dwayne Dixon ? Born and raised in
Gainesville. All-SEC WR & honorable mention All-American for UF.
Dixon coached WRs at UF for 11 years, during its greatest string of
WRs ... 14 into NFL. So Dixon was a Gator Great & he coached so
many Gator Greats : T. McGriff, Jacquez Green, Chris Doering,
Ike Hilliard, Reidel Anthony, Jack Jackson, Taylor Jacobs, etc.
There cannot be any better resume' out there ?
Plus, he did it all for UF.
QBs Dixon's WRs helped : Danny Weurffel , Rex Grossman.
Puzzling : Does Champ have a barrier vs. Gator Greats as UF coaches?

You must be a Kerwin Bell for OC guy.

If you read on down further in that link about Joker, you will see that therte is rumor that Butch Davis has interviewed for the job at Tennessee....
Butch to UT? Gawd, that is worse than Kiffin...

My question is if Pease approves of this hire. Pease is our OC and I would love for Champ to give Pease the full control over the offense. Champ has handcuffed this offense and that seems to be hurting Driskel's progression.
Though this is interesting, usually WR coach is some young guy who is just getting his feet wet in coaching.

mtn2top wrote:An additional staff consideration is Muschamp having a qualified O-coordinator in waiting, as a backup for Pease. Phillips will have at least a year to learn the system and players which would allow for a seamless transition, if needed.
Philips also has an outstanding reputation as a recruiter.
Very good point about OC-in-waiting. Sooner or later (maybe after just one more year @ UF) Pease will get the call to be a HC somewhere. I believe Pease's contract was for two more years.
I wonder how much of a $$ cut this will be for Joker. But then, presuming he assumes OC after Pease eventually leaves, maybe not so much.
I guess Joker would not be involved with preparations for the Sugar Bowl??

I don't get the infatuation with Butch. The "alleged" problems at Miami and UNC alone should raise major red flags. If he did go to UT they would be making a huge mistake, imo.
Jimbo, going to UT would be ideal. Not only would he send UT further into the dumpster, but he would leave FSU in shambles. With all the openings they would be way behind in a search and their recruiting would fall apart. They probably wouldn't get a quality coach unless they lured one currently coaching. With the troubles and uncertainty in the ACC, I don't see that happening.
