Yep. I felt pretty comfortable marking that one down as a W every year. He will not coach the final game of the year.

Yup, Stewart Mandel of SI just tweeted it - and that DD will not coach the Kentucky game.

If you saw any of last night's UT-Vandy game, you could tell that he's lost this team. Their first loss to Vandy in Nashville in 30 years (and all the Vol fans leaving en masse at the end of the 3rd) was the last straw.

I wonder who Alvie wants to take his place? Whoever it is, the Vols will be condemned to irrelevancy for quite some time to come.

There's actually an official report that Jon Gruden has said he would go for $5M a year for 10 years and $4M a year for his staff ... Still don't think it'll happen but it's from a very credible source in Knoxville

Who's your choice to replace him? And, according to your sources from the Albanian underground network, who's the favorite?

Official release from the school.

The University of Tennessee announced today that Derek Dooley will not return as the head football coach of the Vols. The announcement was made by Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Dave Hart, who will immediately begin a search for a new head coach for the Vols.

Hart will address the media at 2 p.m. today (Sunday, Nov. 18) at the Stokely Family Media Center at Neyland Stadium. The press conference will also be streamed live on UTSports.com.

“We very much appreciate the effort and energy that Derek Dooley and his staff have poured into our football program at the University of Tennessee,” said Hart. “Derek and I met early this morning, and I informed him that I believed a change in leadership, despite the positive contributions he has made to the overall health of the program, was in the best long-term interests of Tennessee football. We will immediately begin the search for the best possible candidate to assume this leadership role.”

Dooley will not coach the Vols in the season finale against Kentucky on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 12:21 p.m. Offensive coordinator Jim Chaney will serve as interim head coach for Saturday’s game.

“I am sorry we could not generate enough wins to create hope for a brighter future,” said Dooley. “Although progress was not reflected in our record, I am proud of the strides we made to strengthen the foundation for future success in all areas of the program.

“During the last 34 months, I’ve given my all for Tennessee, and our family appreciates all this University and the Knoxville community has given us.”

Wait. What? No more "Fear the Pants", Dork?

Vandy>UT

How's that feel, inbred?

I always think I know all the answers but truth be told I just don't know. That's why I celebrated the Vandy loss last night. I knew a Commodore blowout would be the last straw for this wretched coach.

If they were smart they would can the AD too. But that would be an explosive oxymoron that no one could withstand.

Please not Charlie. I like Charlie a lot. He needs to stay out of the SEC. As much as I would hate to say it, they should re-hire Fulmer. He did have nationally ranked teams and he loves Tennessee.

On Election Day they had a "coaches election" on the sports radio station all day long on who you would choose as the next coach. Fulmer actually won

I said it at the time and I'm saying it again. UT should have never fired Fulmer.

There's not talent in Tennessee. In order to win 8 games you have to recruit 4 and 5 star kids out of state. Fulmer was able to do exactly that. Louisiana, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, all have top in-state talent. In order win 8 games here, you just need to lock down the majority of your state.

Coaching and a few big 5-stars will take you from 8 wins to 10 or 11. And that's all you can really ask for year in and year out.
