Dooley's column yesterday?
I could have written it. He was talking about being 11 years old in St Augustine and watching the Fla/Misery Sugar Bowl. I was in Lakeland Fla (and 3 days from my 11th birthday watching the game at my grandparents house. Unlike Pat I was watching some of that 4th qtr come back. I saw Charles Casey (AA WR) make an amazing catch for the last TD. At that time the Tampa Tribune (Thom McCewen(sp)was the Sports Editor (great one) and they printed this poem after the game:
Here lies Ray Graves that everybody knew.
Loved by one and all until he went for two.
The irony was Wayne Barfield the kicker had the NCAA record for most PATs in a row.

Well if you have a firm grasp of AP Style maybe you could get a second job.

Im not a big fan of PD but the history of that game is important in gator
lore. It was our VERY FIRST New Years Day game. And when I say NY Day game that was big then. You only had the Rose Orange Sugar and Cotton on
that day. Lesser ones were Gator, Bluebonnet and maybe the Sun and Tangerine. Fla had been to the Gator. But never a big one. The comeback was huge and the irony of not kicking three PATs with the best PAT guy in college ball was striking. SOS was the only losing player to win the MVP in that game. He did lead them to an ORange Bowl win the following year. Another first for the gators.....................

After we win on Saturday I think Coach Graves should be given the game ball. Those of us who started following the Gators in the 60's know what Coach Graves meant to UF and what a great man he is.

At least he didn't refer to UF as FL. You must be a journalist to bring that up.
