Gator Bars in New York City

Postby Slevin » Mon Sep 19, 2011 2:17 pm

Do any of you know of a good spot to watch the games? I'm trying to find the right atmosphere for the Alabama game, and can't quite find a spot. So far i have The Town Tavern as a pretty legit spot. I yelped it and googled it, and a lot of them have reviews from like '08 and '09, and knowing NYC, the trends change monthly here so I'd rather know about a place that was good to go to recently.

If anybody has any opinions, let me know!

The Town Tavern is closed. There's a new bar there, but I don't know if it's a "Gator Bar".

Sidebar is pretty good - it's usually packed and you actually have to go online to reserve a table in advanced. If you want to stand the whole game, pressed up against other people, cheering on UF, this is the place for you. They play the Gator music when we score, so it's a fun time.

There's also the Gin Mill, which is like Sidebar, but everyone who works there is a dick and it's just as crowded, if not more, than Sidebar.

if you had to pick, strictly on atmosphere, where would you go?

This place looks promising. I've never been there though.

My buddys are drunk at sidebar every Saturday during the Fall. They describe it as their NYC version of Balls or Salty Dog for gamedays.

Whenever I'm traveling, which is fairly frequently, I like to check out the local gator clubs. In this case, I would recommend watching with the Gotham Gator Club. Here are the viewing locations:

One of the coolest things is being in a remote location and bumping into an old friend you went to school with.

This! Always look up the local Gator clubs (we had 3 in the PIT-CLE area which helped me survive living there for awhile). The Gotham City Gator Club has a good rep at rocking the place hard full of gator fans. Definitely put it on your place to go if you're in NYC during a game. (Shout out to the Gator Club in Chicago as well...that was a good time).

No, its an echo from the cavernous space left in here from the banning of Sid's ego and Yorkie's deflated dreams.

alright so sidebar and the mill are the two i have down to check out. i'm probably going to pop in both for the alabama game early to see which one is popping the most. i never bothered to check the gotham gator club thing because i always thought they like, rented out the bars or something and you had to be apart of it to even get in. but if you can still go and stand around and hang out than that's perfect for me. i could care less about sitting anyways. thanks for all the help guys!

Sidebar is good - if you get there 90 minutes or so before the game, you can usually get a seat at the bar in the basement (without a reservation).

I was in NY for the SEC Championship game year before last... went to Gin Mill - got there about two hours before the game. A lot of the tables upstairs were reserved - but head to the basement as soon as they open it (think you can get on a list too). Good atmosphere, though the game sucked...
