Do the Gators move up to No. 2?
With Kansas and Michigan losing today , I think there's a decent chance for the Gators to move up to Number 2 in the rankings.

You think we'll really move up 2 spots when only 2 teams ahead of us lost?

Just don't get to No. 1. Oh and Michigan still might steal No. 2.
With any luck, my time here is limited.

They probably will but just to play the devil's advocate: A number 1 Michigan lost to a Number 3 Indiana and plays in the Big Ten which currently has 5 teams in the top 25. I don't see Michigan dropping very far. On the other hand Florida is one of the hotest teams in the Nation and are getting lots of media praise. (Hate to say it but Miami is probably the other hotest team and may break into the top 10.)

We will move up to #2, but I really think we are being overrated a bit. These teams we are beating are awful. I keep thinking back to that game we played against Kansas St., where they were in control for most of the game against us. That game scares me and makes me wonder what we would look like playing in a conference with some competition. I'd be a little more confident if we are able to win at Mizzou and Kentucky.

Rankings don't mean ****. Seeding in the tourney does, and UF would be a #1 seed at this point.

Agreed but rankings influence seedings.

Early on we played some tuff OOC games. We would have some
better measuring-stick if Mizzou, Ole Miss, Arkansas, etc had
played some tuff OOC teams.

Literally every team in the top 25 has had at least one game like the one we had against KSU. Nobody else has dominated the way we have.

The only game I saw all day was ours, but I think we should be #1. I've seen Indy play. They're good but not UF good. Besides, Wisconsin beat them on their home floor. They played us on our home floor and got blown out. They way #1 has been getting beat the last month, not sure I mind being #2.

Considering we have only played 19 games through today and Michigan/Indiana have now played 21 games.... we all have 2 losses.... B1G is a stronger conference....
I'd see:
1. Indiana (19-2)
2. Michigan (19-2)
3. Florida (17-2)
4. Duke (18-2)
5. Kansas (18-2)
6. Gonzaga (20-2)
7. Arizona (18-2)
8. Butler (18-3)
9. Miami (16-3)
10. Ohio St. (16-4)
I'd see:
1. Indiana (19-2)
2. Michigan (19-2)
3. Florida (17-2)
4. Duke (18-2)
5. Kansas (18-2)
6. Gonzaga (20-2)
7. Arizona (18-2)
8. Butler (18-3)
9. Miami (16-3)
10. Ohio St. (16-4)

I hope we stayed at 4. Being #1 right now is a target on your back that every team wants to gun down.

Agree. Also agree that I'd just as soon stay at #4.

The most points scored on us in a regular season game is 67. Amazing.

I'll tell you what, this Gator Basketball team is a Buzz Saw. I really, really think this team is special, and regardless of the rankings we are going to go DEEP into the tournament. Like no team I have ever seen, including the 04s, this team works together, doesn't quit, and shuts down teams completely. Regardless of which conference is better, it is very very difficult to continually shut down Division 1 competition the way we have. February might be tough, we may drop a couple, but I'd much rather lose in February than March. This Buzz Saw is coming.

We ought to pass Michigan, if for no other reason than our superior SOS, but I think it'll be very close. It's all window dressing for the time being.

Miami is #2 in the RPI this morning, behind #1 Duke and ahead of #3 Florida. Miami (17-3) has one more loss than both Duke (19-2) and UF (18-2), but boasts the #1 SOS.

Can you imagine the Gators if we still had Kadji? He's averaging 1.5 blocks, 6 rebounds and 13+ points per game against the #1 schedule. I am sure there are very good reasons why Kadji is no longer a Gator, but... just sayin.

My sister is a 'tragedizer' gator-fan. ( She went to UF, then put her
husband through.) When Ole Miss closed our lead to 12, she started
that "Turn it off. We're going to lose" stuff. So happy I could, with no
trace of doubt say "Not with this team; they'll never catch up." Sure
enough, minutes later we had a 20 point lead.
Getting the vote of confidence as #1 will take away the "smidgen"
of "Cinderella-story" we have at #4. Being #1, the only target-threat
I see, comes from those liking to conclude at national tourney-time:
"See, I knew they were overrated." if we be bounced even in the
NC title-game. #4 is an excellent underdog & under-respected
"working platform". Heck let some more jump us down to 7,8, or 9.

PS>That "6'9" ex-brother-in-law story" comes later. No worry it's short.

Well this thread was about moving up to #2 not#1 which won't happen anyway so why would you want to stay at 4
