The other factor that has not been discussed much is LDR's development.  Everyone is assuming that the same LDR strolls out and runs the same offense. That will not be the case. He's as likely to show improvement as the other players around him.

Listen, I don't mean this in any kind of "troll" or smart-alecky way, but, in all honesty, I think he could be worse. Isn't this the 3rd shoulder surgery of his football career? 1 in high school out in Colorado, 2 at UF??

I'm sorry, but if he trots out there as our starter, I'm going to get a sinking feeling in my stomach.

Just predicting based on the Spring game, I see Franks as the clear # 2.

Zaire would have to make up a lot of ground to move up from #3.  There's a lot of other ways to use Zaire in this offense.

If Coach Mac goes with Franks, that means he is willing to go with an 8-4 or 7-5 season so Franks can produce some 10 or 11 win seasons in the future, much like Georgia does when they start freshmen quarterbacks.

Del Rio (healthy) gives us a shot at 9 or 10 wins this season.

I think most coaches look at what's going to give them the most wins in the immediate season.

Don't get your hopes up if you're looking for a change at QB.  I'll predict right now that Luke Del Rio comes out of the fall as the starter.

It makes sense to me.  Del Rio doesn't have the strongest arm, that would be Franks.  Del Rio isn't an elusive runner, that would be Zaire.  Having the most Gator game experience and deepest knowledge of the offense gives Del Rio a nearly insurmountable advantage in remaining the starter.

Del Rio can execute all the playbook and make most of the throws.  He serves as an extension of the OC on the field and can get the most out of the other players.  There's a leadership and cerebral side of the QB position.

When all factors are considered, don't be surprised when Luke Del Rio remains our starting QB.

I would not be surprised if he wins the job, but I have questions about his being able considering his injuries to make the throws that are required.  And I don't see him getting the most out of others either.  If he wins the job the team will respect that, if he is anointed there will be issues with team chemistry.  Just my opinion.

I wonder what factors make you think this?  I agree that the best performer will win the job.

I guess I'm a little influenced by MLB strategy now. Del Rio did not play in the Spring and did not have a rehab game. Why should the Michigan game be his rehab game?

Del Rio could be used in the same way Spurrier used Noah Brindise.

Del Rio will hold a clipboard and wear a ball cap. His journey now is towards coaching and, if it isn't, he'll transfer again because he isn't taking the starting job at UF.

That would be the biggest middle finger ever to a fan base that's been through hell with their QB position since 2010.

Just reading that thread title made me throw up in my mouth a little.

Del Rio is a horrible QB. I don't care how deep his knowledge is of the offense - he isn't skilled enough to execute it. What good is it to know an offense inside and out when you can't make over half the throws anyway? He should quit attempting to play the game of football and take his "knowledge" into the coaching ranks, where it can perhaps be of some service. I'm sure his father could arrange an entry level position within the Raiders organization to get his career underway.

I hope Mac would have enough courtesy to make that announcement at least a few days in advance of the game in Dallas so I can bail out and save some money. I'll have to eat the airfare, but I could still cancel the hotel rooms and rental car.

I know some probably think I'm joking, but I'm not. I refuse to watch a scrub like Luke Del Rio play QB for us anymore. I'm done. Especially when we'll have Zaire and Franks on the roster. Even Trask, as awful as he is, would be worth more of a look just based on his height, arm strength, and decent running ability. And make no mistake, I'm hoping Trask transfers to clear space, but I'm just saying...anything but Del Rio again. I can't take that type of limited QB play anymore.

I completely agree. He can't execute the offense and our coaches will not start a QB who is probably the 3rd or 4th best guy on the roster. One of the biggest problems we had last year is not having a running option at QB inside the red zone. Felipe Franks gives us that option. Toney gives us that option. Zaire comes out of nowhere to come to Fla. bc he gives us that option. I think our coaches have figured that out. Del Rio runs about as fast as my naps. He gets back in the pocket slowly. His release is slow. He looks like he's underwater out there. I don't care about his alleged knowledge. He didn't exactly look like Einstein last year in most games anyway, and when you couple his lack of athleticism , no way he starts this year. If he does, the fan base will turn on Mac and who in their right mind would want to come to  Fla to play QB? I wouldn't trust  this staff  with my son if he were a stud QB in high school.

If Del Rio starts expect more of the same mediocre offense and 4 loses.
