March is March Madness to me, to most of us. Always has been. Always will be. Speak for yourself. But you don't speak for us.

Yep. I can't wait until this basketball b.s. is over and we can get back to football reporting.

One more game to go....

So you can start ripping the coaches, AD, athletic association, facilities, cheerleaders, band, weather, sand spurs, etc. Did I miss anything?

Oh, heck! How could I overlook the players?

It's easy to overlook the fact that according to the metrics used by the Selection Committee to seed the tournament, The Florida Gators are the #14 team in the nation.  That's quite an improvement from last year when we didn't even make the cut.  A Sweet 16 berth is not that far beyond what the Gators have shown they can accomplish in the final games of this season.

Before a single game is played in the NCAA Tourney, I'm proud of this Gator team and what they have accomplished to get us back playing competitive basketball at a high level.  I look forward to every minute of an extended season to see where they end up and how far their talents can take them.

Only one team, out of every major college basketball team in the nation will end this season without a loss. I'm thankful for a good season and look forward to seeing what these guys can do in Orlando.

According to a different site, the guards for ETSU are actually averaging 19.1 and 10.6 points per game, which means that they have a more balanced offense than my earlier post suggested. If the Gators play the kind of defense that they are capable of, however, I still like their chances in the next game.

It depends on the product they put out there. I just call what I see - I'm here to make our program better.

You are right Gator67, according to:  http://files.streaml...15/TEAMCUME.HTM

The article I saw was later corrected.  They appear to be fairly balanced - except for scoring from the center position.

T.J. Cromer is almost always the high scorer for the team.

March means spring football reports/rumors.

We don't give a crap about the basketball tournament. We want to know who is going to save us at QB and whether we'll finally have a legitimate offense.

who is this "we" you speak of?

I happen to like basketball just as much as football. I know I am in the minority but stop acting like you speak for the majority of UF fans. Have you not noticed that EVERYBODY on this board disagrees with almost everything you say? So how do you come up with that word "we?"

Your Aspergers syndrome is showing again. Let me list some of the symptoms again:

  • problems with understanding another person’s point of view
  • difficulties engaging in social routines such as conversations and ‘small talk’
  • problems with controlling feelings such as anger, depression and anxiety
  • a preference for routines and schedules which can result in stress or anxiety if a routine is disrupted
  • specialised fields of interest or hobbies.

This all totally explains your obsession with football. Please try to understand that not everybody is the same as you. I would think it would be easy to understand seeing as how everybody disagrees with your opinions.

It's an embarrassment that you waste so much of your time here trying to appear to be what you clearly are not.  Even the other trolls see through your orange and blue Bedouin disguise, so why do you even bother?. You have no credibility here.  Nothing but your negativity.  It's pathetic and predictable.

Many will laugh and poke fun at me for this statement, but I honestly believe that if I had been AD, we would have surpassed Miami (FL) in the ring count and left FSU in the dust by now.

Our policy blunders have simply been too great to sit quietly on the sidelines and ignore. Thus, my presence on here (and Swamp Gas before I was banned in 2013). I must speak out for the good of our program - otherwise I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I didn't.

We're unfocused and lazy as a fan base right now. Very disconcerting to see some of our smarter, more eloquent fans - mtn2top, Werner, gatorurf, Drth, etc - allowing themselves to be sucked into the distractions. A sharper, more disciplined fan base would be discussing Franks vs Trask. We have to know who our QB will be and who can resurrect this offense. Some things are simply more important than others. This cannot be ignored.

"A smarter, more disciplined fan base" understands there is so much more to be being a well rounded, more complete, fan than just football.  The total sports fan concept involves a person who can sit down and discuss and appreciate a wide range of topics related to sports other than just football.  The folks who came up with the "all sports trophy" clearly understood the importance of participation in more than a single sport.  The University of Florida does also, that's why we always have such a great standing at the end of each year.  fsu and Miami doesn't even come close to us in that respect.

It must be a very boring existence for the person who dwells on one subject.  The person who does has deprived themselves of so much.  Fans at the other two major schools in Florida don't care for other sports because their teams can't compete.

Out of state examples might well include Alabama, football is all they live and breathe.  Their breadth of knowledge is like so many others - very limited.  But what else do they have?  Nothing!  uga fans are the same way and they are miserable eight months out of the year.  At UK it's basketball.  When was the last time you heard them talking about the other sports their schools participate in?

You should be grateful we allow you to participate with us.  I only wish we could view you as being a "smarter, more eloquent fan".  It's your inability to express yourself more openly about the school you are really a fan of that limits your whole fan concept.  Take Alvin for example.  He make people mad, but there is no doubt where his allegiance lies and for that he has my respect.  His jabbing is what we experience when we attend games.  I see him as a person I could sit with, drink a cold beer, and poke fun with each other,  He understands, and appreciates, the humor of being a fan.

You on the other hand are a fan ashamed to claim allegiance and come here hell bent on finding fault.  What a pity that you have nothing worthwhile to contribute to what are typically well rounded discussions on all sports.  I don't even feel sorry for you because you brought it on yourself.  What you do is easy, you find fault.  All of us do that to some extent, but we make it humorous.  You've dug a hole devoid of humor and can never be a part of who the rest of us are.

That's just it, a not so clever ruse.  I get it, as the user name suggests.  T.E. Lawrence, Lawrence of Arabia dressed in Bedouin attire but underneath was all English Empire in his underlying purposes and motives.

I will go back to not responding to the baiting.  I'm not fooled in the least by your inane head games and trolling of this board.  I see through you and your simplistic "football is all" argument.  You are not a Gator even though you try so hard to masquerade as one here.  I for one, am glad of it as that would diminish the Gator Nation.

ETSU has some momentum, winning the Southern Conference Championship.  Even still, they haven't played the level of competition UF has this season.  They loss by 4 to Tennessee at home on Dec. 22nd.  They are 8-5 for the season in road games.  All seniors and juniors on the roster however.   Guards T.J Cromer (Senior) and Desonta Bradford (Junior) are the leading scorers (averaging 19.1 and 10.6 respectively) for the team.

Peter Jurkin, their 7 foot Senior center only averages 1.7 a game.  From there they have scoring contributors but no one is taller than 6' 9".  So how much of a factor is their inside game?

We have great guards.  I'll stay with the Gators winning this first round game in Orlando.  Perimeter defense and treys can put us through.  We're not a power inside, but Hays and Rimmer with some rebounding help from our power forwards can compete in the paint.  It's all about the shots falling.  Another important aspect will be dribble penetration by our guards to get to the stripe and have their bigs play without fouling.

If we actually had even good guards we would have beat Vandy in regulation, probably not lost at least one other time to Vandy.  We don't have any great players and since all of them have declined at the same time if they don't step up we probably will be one and done.

With you as AD we might be on death penalty and you in jail for doing whatever you wanted.  And of course us whining here has almost no impact on the program.

I respectfully disagree with you on this vulcan_alex.  Our guards are the strength of this team and mostly responsible for the success we've had this season.  They are not invincible or able to carry the team as our late season failings show.  Even still, we came out in the top 15 team going into the NCAA Tourney.  Not such a bad place to be thanks to their play.

We have been hampered by perimeter defense because of our over-reliance on our guards and three point scoring.  Vandy has excellent perimeter defense and shooting WITH an effective paint presence in Kornet.   Our guards needed more scoring contribution from the rest of the team and bench.  Even still the games were very close.

The vacuum for the Gators continues to be in our bigs and playing in the paint.   We can't effectively go inside when teams focus on defending our guards. Egbunu was healing most of the season and had just started returning to form.  Hayes is a bit undersized and inexperienced but has been somewhat effective in relief,  Rimmer put in good relief minutes but is not an elite player.  Gak is the future and will develop into a good center as he matures.

We've had to compensate for a lack of presence in the paint for most of this season - and that's been mostly with our guards in transition baskets and outside shooting.  When the shots don't fall and the forwards struggle - so does the team.

The key for our success in this NCAA Tourney will be in our forwards and their ability to score and defend.  We need Robinson and Leon to shoot and rebound better.  Keith Stone and Eric Hester are young but also need to contribute in relief.  If the 3s and 4s take some pressure off our guards we can play into the Sweet 16 and have a chance at making the Elite 8.

Hill, Chiozza, Allen and Barry have been fairly consistent this season in defending and scoring.  Our losses coincide with low shooting percentage (and good permeiter defense).  With a little more scoring and rebounding help from the rest of the team we can finish the season with a couple of big tourney wins.
